Problem Note 36294: Special characters in column names might cause errors when importing data in SAS® Enterprise Guide®
Import Data task might fail with an error similar to the following:
ERROR: Variable My_Var is not on file WORK.BOOK1.
This error will most likely occur only with Excel or Microsoft Access data. In addition, the error can happen when the column name has special characters or embedded spaces, and the following two options are selected in the Import Data task:
Rename columns to comply with SAS naming conventions.
Import the data using SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files whenever possible.
The only circumvention to the problem is to not use these options for the particular file being imported, or manually remove the special characters in the data file before importing.
